An
extraordinary group of nursing professionals
is dedicated to working with cancer patients
at Huntington Hospital’s Don Monti Cancer
Center. These individuals staff the hospital’s
25-bed inpatient oncology unit, as well as outpatient
areas such as Radiation Oncology and the Women’s
Health Center. A majority of these registered
nurses are also certified oncology nurses (OCN)
and have passed a rigorous test administered
by the Oncology Nursing Society, a national organization.
Regardless of their specific roles
and work environments, Huntington Hospital's
oncology nurses share a commitment to patient
education. This common goal helps provide a continuum
of care to cancer patients as they navigate the
healthcare system. Cancer diagnosis and treatment
might involve surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation
therapy. A short-or long-term hospital stay might
be required. Oncology nurses are with cancer
patients every step of the way, from screening
and diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Our
nurses understand that the more their patients
know about their disease and its treatment, the
less anxiety they are likely to experience.
