Surgery
is still one of the most common treatments for
many different types of cancer.
The primary goal of surgical oncologists at
Huntington Hospital is to remove any and all
cancer cells from the body in addition to any
affected lymph nodes which would help indicate
whether or not the cancer has spread to other
parts of the body. Of course, preservation of
healthy tissue and bodily functions is always
of the utmost concern. Surgery may also be combined
with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or
other treatments.
Specific surgical options will be determined
by your physician based on:
- the type and stage of the cancer
- your age, overall health, and medical history
- your tolerance for specific medications,
procedures, and therapies
- expectation for the course of the disease
- your opinion or preference
