The staff of Huntington Hospital’s dedicated
Cardiac Services Unit includes a dynamic team of registered
nurses involved in the delivery of both invasive and
noninvasive cardiac testing.
The focus of the nurses in the Cardiac Services Unit
is to provide patient-centered quality care in a safe
environment. This includes ongoing communication with
patient families in a collegial manner. Nurses in this
unit are vital members of the health care team which
provides a full spectrum of advanced cardiac diagnostic
testing and interventional procedures to both inpatients
and outpatients. In addition to preadmission interviewing
and testing, patient assessment, cardiac monitoring,
and the administration of medications, nurses assist
cardiologists and electrophysiologists in a wide variety
of procedures. These include cardiac catheterizations,
pacemaker and intra-cardiac defibrillator (ICD) insertion,
cardiac resynchronization, stress and transesophageal
echocardiography, and tilt table studies. Nurses are
also responsible for assessing patients post procedure.
The nursing staff of Cardiac Services is required
to maintain certifications in basic life support (BLS)
and advanced life support (ACLS) as well as North Shore-Long
Island Jewish Health System (NS-LIJ HS) sedation credentialing. In
addition, many of the nurses also maintain cardiovascular
and critical care nursing certifications.
Huntington Hospital’s Cardiac Services Unit
is open from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday.
Coverage for the acute MI/ primary angioplasty program
