CCU

The Critical Care Units at Huntington Hospital include
an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 12 private beds and
a Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with 14 private beds. In
addition, there are two step-down units including an
8-bed Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SICU) and an
8-bed Coronary Intermediate Care Unit (CICU) for those
patients transitioning to either a regular medical/surgical
room at the hospital or back home.
ICU

These highly specialized units require advanced assessment
skills. Staff members are all registered nurses with
certification in critical care. Nurses in these units
give total, yet personal care to the critically ill
patient using such resources as cardiac monitors, hemodynamic
monitors, ventilators, and intracranial pressure monitors
in the ICU and intraaortic balloon pumps in the CCU.
An intensivist, a cardiology fellow and a critical
care nurse specialist provide support around the clock.
Nurses are well prepared by an extensive orientation
program as well as continuing education in EKG interpretation,
hemodynamic monitoring, and other treatment modalities.
Nurses on these units have Basic and Advanced Life
Support certification as well.
