Nurses in the Dialysis Unit work with physicians,
social workers, and dieticians in a multi-disciplinary
approach to care. They offer support and education
to the patients and their families throughout the acute
and chronic phases of renal disease. Comprehensive
training in hemodialysis prepares the nurse to work
in this highly specialized area.
The Hemodialysis Unit is comprised of seven stations
including one isolation room and provides care to chronic
outpatients in addition to the hospital’s acute
patient population. The unit is open Monday through
Saturday 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. After hours and on holidays,
an on-call group is available to provide emergency
treatments. The staff provides an individualized plan
of care for each patient. The nurses also provide a
support group for dialysis patients and their families.
