Most patients on this unit are postpartum mothers
whom nurses assist with self care and infant care.
Nurses foster the development of self-confidence and
infant bonding through the rooming-in-program and extended
family visitation. The OB/GYN nurse also cares for
the hospitalized antepartum patient, performing ongoing
assessments and interventions such as fetal non-stress
testing and IV therapy. Several beds on this unit are
designated for post-operative gynecology patients if
the postpartum and antepartum census permits. This
further adds to the varied but comprehensive experience
in the field of women’s health and makes the
OB/GYN nurse a valuable part of the health care team.
