The Clark Gilles Pediatric unit is a multi-service
unit for patients from infancy through young adulthood.
Emphasis is placed on the needs of the pediatric ambulatory
surgery patient, as well as the acute care pediatric
patient. The nurse on this unit makes assessments and
implements a plan of care appropriate for each child’s
developmental level. Facilities for rooming-in are
available to maintain important parent-child bonds
and encourage parent involvement to enhance continuity
of care upon discharge. The pediatric nurse uses skills
common to medical/surgical nursing but in a creative
way that takes into account growth and development
and the psychosocial aspects of caring for hospitalized
children.
