Ground Floor
Huntington Hospital’s dedicated Pre-Surgical
Testing Department provides thorough and efficient
preoperative assessments and testing in a convenient “one
stop” location. The staff consists
of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, EKG/lab
technicians, and radiology technologists. There
are four private exam rooms and radiology accommodations
right in the department which is open Monday
through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM.
An important role of the nursing staff is to
provide preoperative instructions and to answer
questions to help alleviate any anxiety the patients
may feel toward upcoming procedures.
Individuals who are preparing for ambulatory
surgery, in patient surgery, colonoscopies, gastroscopies
and other special procedures (i.e. liver/renal
biopsies) make an appointment for pre-surgical
testing approximately 7-10 days prior to the
planned procedure. On the day of the pre-surgical
testing, patients go to the admitting office
on the ground floor and complete the registration
process with an admitting registrar. Once
this is completed, the patient is brought into
the Pre-Surgical Testing Department (next to
Admitting) where a nursing assessment and the
appropriate testing (radiology, EKG and blood
work) is performed by our friendly staff. All
patients undergoing any surgical procedure should
be seen by our Pre-Surgical Testing staff in
order to assure patient safety through thorough
patient evaluations and timely preparation of
patient charts to allow for a smooth and efficient
surgical experience.
