Micheline
C. Chu, MD, a specialist in infertility
and reproductive endocrinology, joined Huntington
Hospital’s Women’s Health
Center, providing women with access to advanced
subspecialized care within the local community.
Dr. Chu, who has been a member of the North
Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System’s
Center for Human Reproduction since July, is on-site
at Huntington Hospital’s Women’s Health
Center on Mondays and
Thursdays, providing state-of-the art diagnostic
and clinical services.
Dr. Chu graduated from Harvard University and
Harvard Medical School. She completed her OB/GYN
residency at Yale University School of Medicine
and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology
at Columbia University College of Physicians &
Surgeons. Dr. Chu is the author of numerous research
papers in the fields of gynecologic oncology and
reproductive endocrinology. Special areas of interest
include polycystic ovary syndrome.
Dr. Chu is looking forward to working collaboratively
with Huntington Hospital’s staff of attending
obstetrician/gynecologists to assist with the
diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of reproductive
endocrinology issues, including complicated hormonal
and infertility disorders.
“Huntington Hospital already has a staff
of highly qualified physicians in women’s
health, and the Women’s Health Center is
fully equipped to perform the diagnostic testing
and monitoring that many of these patients require,”
said Dr. Chu. Patients who are battling infertility
and are candidates for in vitro fertilization
may have all of their diagnostic testing and monitoring
performed in the local community by Dr. Chu, although
they would still be required to visit the Center
for Human Reproduction at North Shore-LIJ in Manhasset
for certain specialized procedures.
Dr. Chu noted that once pregnancy is achieved,
either through IVF or other interventions, patients
can return to their own obstetricians for management
of the pregnancy and delivery. Many local couples
choose to deliver their babies at Huntington Hospital
because of the state-of-the-art labor, delivery,
and recovery suites (LDRs), the 24-hour neonatology
program, level 2 nursery, antepartum
testing service, and award-winning nursing care.
“These elements make Huntington Hospital
a safe, convenient, and special place to deliver
a baby,” said Mitchell Kramer, MD, Chief
of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Huntington.
In addition to seeing patients in the Women’s
Health Center, Dr. Chu will be available to assist
the hospital’s attending gynecologists with
surgical procedures.
“By virtue of her training, Dr. Chu brings
state-of-the-art care to our community,”
said Dr. Kramer. “Her presence here provides
women in our community with the added convenience
of not having to travel far in order to have access
to this level of care.”
