Huntington Hospital has received the 2009 American Heart Association/
American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke
Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes
Huntington’s success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients. Huntington
is a New York State-designated Stroke Center.
To receive the award, the hospital had to be in compliance with at least 85 percent
of all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators
for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and in compliance with at least 75
percent of six Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures. The measures
include aggressive use of medications and other interventions aimed at reducing
death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
“The Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement
Award demonstrates our commitment to using evidence-based protocols to
quickly and efficiently treat stroke patients,” said Michael M. Grosso, MD, Sr. Vice
President of medical affairs at Huntington Hospital.
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association,
stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause
of serious, long-term disability. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 45
seconds; someone dies of a stroke every three minutes; and 795,000 people
suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. //
