Breathe Easier:
Huntington Hospital is a Smoke-Free Campus

Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in America, accounting for more than 400,000 deaths each year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Huntington Hospital, along with the entire North Shore-LIJ Health System, became a smoke free campus effective 1/1/2010. This means that smoking is not allowed anywhere on hospital property, including parking fields, etc. This policy applies to patients, visitors and staff.

Huntington Hospital, in conjunction with the Suffolk County Department of Health, offers a free “Learn to Be Tobacco Free” smoking cessation workshop. Prescription medications and materials are provided to participants free of charge.

For additional information and a schedule of upcoming dates, please call Irene Housley, RN, at (631) 351-2385. In addition, the hospital’s hosts “Ann’s Hope: Nicotine Anonymous,” a weekly fellowship of men and women who support one another in leading nicotine-free lives. Meetings take place every Wednesday from 7:30 – 8:30 PM in the hospital. Please call Patti Aliperti at (631) 385-1410 for additional information.
