MAMMOGRAPHY
Mammography,
an x-ray of breast tissue, can detect the tiniest
change in your breast, even two years before you
might notice it yourself. At the Women's Health
Center, your mammography will be safe, performed
gently and efficiently, and read by an experienced,
Board-certified radiologist.
Since we are part of Huntington Hospital,
you can be certain that all of our technologists
are certified. Additionally, our state-of-the-art
equipment is certified as safe and effective by
the American College of Radiology and the FDA.
After your mammography, your results
will be discussed with you before you leave and
our professionals will answer any questions or
concerns. If the results are suspicious, we offer
counseling, education, and the latest medical
technology in diagnostic breast biopsy.
STEREOTACTIC,
MAMMOTOME, AND ULTRASOUND-GUIDED BREAST BIOPSIES
For many women, computer-guided needle
biopsy for obtaining the tissue sample needed
for diagnosis is now an alternative to surgical
biopsy and hospital admission. Computer-guided
needle biopsy is performed by a radiologist in
consultation with your physician and is done on
an outpatient basis. This enables patients to
go home the same day. Stereotactic, mammotome,
and ultrasound-guided needle biopsies are an important
advance for women as they are less painful, do
not create significant scarring, and allow for
a rapid return to normal activity.
Biopsy results are available within
24 business hours. If further treatment is needed,
our staff can help with presurgical education
and counseling. We will be with you every step
of the way.
