NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING SERVICES

The Women's Health Center provides nutritional counseling for women with special nutritional needs, including pregnant women and women with cancer.

A number of physical conditions may precipitate a woman's need for expertise regarding nutrition.

They include:

Pregnancy-related conditions

  • pre-pregnancy weight of greater than 10 percent underweight or 20 percent overweight compared with standard weight for height tables
  • low or excessive weight gain during pregnancy
  • a history of multiple births, short intervals between births, gestational diabetes or many previous births

    Other conditions
  • eating problems associated with cancer
  • nutritional deficiencies or toxicities
  • allergies to major food groups
  • health problems associated with chronic diseases

Our nutritional counseling services are provided by a registered dietitian who will assess your present nutritional intake. Once an assessment is made, she will work with you to set specific goals and develop a nutritional plan consistent with your needs. Patients' goals vary and can include weight gain, loss, or maintenance and improved nutritional intake. Over time, the dietitian will monitor your response to care and reevaluate your nutritional needs.
